Broadcasting Equipment

Broadcasting is the act of distribution of audio and video content to a mass audience via radio, television, or other. Recipients of the eclectic or standard broadcasts essentially include the larger masses as well as niche audience. Today broadcasting forms a very large segment of the mass media.

Broadcasting equipment usually consists of higher power transmitters, equipment racks, signal routing (coaxial cable and waveguide), modulators, video displays, monitor and control systems and even buildings and towers.

Various kinds of electronic broadcasting media known:

  • Telephone broadcasting: it is the earliest form of electronic broadcasting.
  • Radio broadcasting: It is an audio (sound) broadcasting service where the sound is being transmitted from a transmitter to an antenna end and then to a receiving device. The equipments associated with this broadcasting media are – a transmitter, a broadcast antenna kit and an amplifier.
  • Television broadcasting (telecast): this slowly became the most popular medium of broadcasting. Equipments usually required were an antenna, a cable and a cathode ray tube fitted inside the TV box.
  • Cable radio and cable television: transmitted through the coaxial cable, serving as transmission mediums for radio or television programming, where the cable-dedicated programming is limited. This medium not only gave better quality of television viewing to the audience but also serve multiple users from one cable. This helped in enhancing the reach of the medium.
  • Satellite television and satellite radio: It is meant for direct-to-home(DTH) broadcast programming and provides a mix of radio or television broadcasts, or both, with satellite-controlled programming.
  • Webcasting of video/television and audio/radio streams: offers a mix of traditional transmission of the radio and television broadcasts with now a webcast programming essentially dedicated. This can be seen in as small a device as a mobile phone with the help of satellite receivers and internet enablers.
  • Cellular broadcasting : Cellular video transmission

Broadcasting equipments have been evolving at a very high pace. More and more of the items are getting into digital mode. Cost is another area where lot of development is seen. With more demand and subsequent supply, the prices are dropping at a slow rate for the equipment parts only. However that of sophisticated equipments is still at a premium. Companies have come up and collaboration among countries is helping the entire evolution of the industry. Radio and television mediums experience very high penetration levels across the world and hence their broadcasting equipments are the most evolved, researched and available ones in the industry.
